First Generation College Graduate from the University of Florida

I am the first in my family to receive a bachelors degree from the University of Florida. My major is in Agricultural Education and Communication (AEC) with a specialization in Communication and Leadership Development.

Through my class work and experiences, I have learned to express my creativity, passion, and ideas to educate and communicate the importance of agriculture and natural resources. My goal is to apply to graduate school to continue my education in food and resource economics, business, or extension.

I have expertise in; communication software programs, such as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, preparing plans of action, using team and leadership strategies to progress certain tasks and find common ground in a working environment. I also have learned to conduct research and write an honors thesis with an AEC professor and several graduate students. I am excited to use what I have learned in my everyday life and carry it with me through my future endeavors.

Coming from an agricultural background, both of my parent’s families have farmed, trained horses for shows and broke race horses. My mother owns a hay company in Ocala, FL that sells to horse farms, dairies and racetracks. My father is heavily involved in the thoroughbred industry and is a trainer/ retired jockey.

I had the pleasure of traveling out west during the summer of 2019 with my mom and her business partner to experience the process of buying hay from farmers. In Oregon I had the opportunity to visit a hemp farm, and later wrote an article about the visit. You can find the article in my writing sample. I interviewed two farmers, in which we talked about the pros and cons, of growing hemp, and the potential legalization of hemp in the U.S.
